ulundhu vadai

It was pinching chillness outside and i was very much for a crisp-crisp hot-hot snack and wished to make ulundhu vadai that evening....Many people say that it drinks oil and always avoid that snack...But this snack is one of my favourite that amma prepares for me during study hols....Sweet memories...Coconut chutney is a good side for this..

Ingredients:
Urud dhal - 1 cup
ginger - 2 inches
cumin - 1 tbsp
pepper - 1 tsp
onion - 1 big
green chillies - 3
coriander,curry leaves
salt
oil

Procedure:
Soak the dhal in water for 2 hrs.
Drain the water completely(This is extremely important for the vadas to absorb less oil)Grind the urud dhal in a blender(I used grinder, since my blender didnt obey my orders :$)smoothly without water. Initially itll be difficult, but after sometime it takes the moisture from soaked dhal and itll be grinding easily. To ease you can use very few drops of water. Add ginger and cumin and then grind for 2 mins.
Cut the onions, chillies ,greens, pepper, salt into small peices and mix with teh ground batter.
Now its ready to fry :)
Heat oil in medium fire in a kadai and fry the vadas.
Hot 'n' Crispy ulundhu vadai can be served with coconut chutney..
